Meanwhile, residents in Oiniades and Aitoliko in Aitoloakarnania have been marooned in their homes due to extensive flooding. In Nechori, landslides triggered by continuous downpours have rendered road networks impassable, complicating rescue operations.

School closures in Zakynthos and Rhodes have forced children to stay home for safety reasons amid the harsh weather conditions. Workers and students in Athens got an unexpected prolonged weekend to celebrate the city’s patron saint festival, as authorities urged people to stay indoors during the stormy weather.

Greece is preparing for another challenging 48 hours, with forecasts predicting hailstorms and heavy rainfall until Friday morning. Meteorologist Giorgos Tsatrafilias cautioned that the upcoming storm system would bring severe thunderstorms, strong winds, a significant drop in temperature, and even snow on Mount Kaimaktsalan.

Tsatrafilias warned of a turbulent start to October with powerful storms, high winds, decreasing temperatures, and potential snowfall. Western and northern Greece, as well as eastern Aegean regions, are expected to bear the brunt of the severe weather, including heavy rain and thunderstorms. Gale-force winds are predicted across the Ionian and southern Aegean seas, with light snowfall anticipated at the Kaimaktsalan ski resort.

Following recent flash floods, more snowfall is expected in Western Macedonia, while Thrace, the Aegean, and Crete are likely to experience heavy rain and storms. Italy and Spain have also faced Mediterranean storms in recent days. Ibiza was put on a red alert due to extreme danger as Storm Gabrielle swept over the Balearic Islands, leading to significant rescue operations for stranded individuals.
