Markham is gearing up for an exciting weekend as it hosts the NTT IndyCar Series for the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy event. This marks the first time the race will be held outside of Toronto, featuring a brand-new track layout spanning 3.52 kilometers with 12 turns.
Attendees are encouraged to utilize GO Transit, York Region Transit, or drive via Highway 407 to access the event grounds, with parking available west of the venue. Metrolinx is ramping up service on the Stouffville Line to facilitate transportation to and from the venue.
Several road closures are in effect in Markham Center due to the race, impacting parts of Enterprise Boulevard, Kennedy Road, YMCA Boulevard, University Boulevard, and South Unionville Boulevard until Monday at 6 a.m. Additional closures will continue until August 27 for track teardown.
The racing action kicks off with the IndyCar event on Sunday, featuring top contenders like points leader Alex Palou, who has been dominating this season. Other drivers to watch include Pato O’Ward, Kyle Kirkwood, David Malukas, Christian Lundgaard, and Rinus Veekay.
Local talent will also be on display in support series races, with Vaughan native Anthony Martella vying for victory in the USF2000 category. The NASCAR Canada Series will make its debut in Markham, showcasing prominent racers like Alex Tagliani and Marc-Antoine Camirand.
Drivers have noted the unique challenges of the Markham track, featuring newly repaved roads and unfamiliar layouts.
