In a recent auction, a lightsaber featuring Luke Skywalker’s severed hand from “The Empire Strikes Back” was sold for a record-breaking $3.75 million US. This sale marked the highest price ever paid for a prop used in a “Star Wars” movie, as confirmed by the auction house.
The upcoming Ultimate Star Wars Auction by Heritage Auctions on Nov. 12 will feature a Darth Vader lightsaber that was used in the iconic duel in Cloud City, where the famous line “I am your father” was spoken. This lightsaber, also seen in “Return of the Jedi,” is projected to fetch a minimum of $1 million US. Among over two dozen lightsaber props to be auctioned are those from “Star Wars” Episodes I to IX, as well as various productions from the universe created by George Lucas.
Noteworthy items include the lightsabers wielded by Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi and Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker in “Revenge of the Sith,” each expected to sell for at least $10,000 US. Additionally, an EE-3 carbine blaster used by Boba Fett in “The Empire Strikes Back” is anticipated to bring in over $100,000 US.
Furthermore, the auction will feature a Yoda puppet hand used by Frank Oz in the character’s original appearance, Anthony Daniels’ signed personal third-draft screenplay for the original 1977 “Star Wars,” and a TIE Fighter pilot helmet from “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.”
