The Covid-19 Inquiry has revealed that some children faced significant harm during the lockdown period at the hands of their caregivers, as highlighted by Chairwoman Baroness Heather Hallett.

The inquiry’s latest module underscored how school closures during lockdown disrupted the fundamental aspects of childhood, leaving children more exposed to online risks such as violent pornography and excessive gaming instead of learning.

According to Counsel Clair Dobbin KC, the closure of schools during the pandemic starkly highlighted their crucial role as a key agency in safeguarding children and families. She raised concerns about children enduring serious harm from their caregivers behind closed doors, emphasizing the alarming reality of such incidents.

Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Education Secretary Gavin Williamson are scheduled to provide evidence in the inquiry at a later stage.
