BBC Radio 2 presenter Vernon Kay shared with his audience how he found relief for a common but often overlooked medical issue affecting nearly one in ten individuals. During his recent broadcast, the 51-year-old host disclosed that he had acquired new shoe insoles to address a long-standing health concern.
On his show aired on September 17, Vernon discussed his struggle with Morton’s neuroma in his left foot, a condition causing nerve-related discomfort and numbness in toes. To alleviate the pain, he invested in specialized elevated-arched insoles after conducting thorough research. While the insoles didn’t cure the condition entirely, they significantly reduced his pain frequency, bringing him considerable relief.
In a light-hearted manner, Vernon jokingly advised his listeners to check their insoles before engaging in lively activities. Morton’s neuroma, as defined by the NHS, involves the thickening of tissue around an irritated or damaged nerve in the foot, with self-care treatments often proving effective.
While Vernon found his own solution, the NHS suggests additional remedies such as foot rest, pain relievers, weight management, and avoiding high-impact activities. The broadcaster also touched on the recent passing of boxing icon Ricky Hatton, expressing deep sadness over the loss and highlighting Hatton’s genuine and engaging personality.
Vernon Kay’s broadcasting career has been on an upward trajectory, notably taking over from Ken Bruce on BBC Radio 2 in 2023. His success began with hosting T4 in 2000 and later presenting All Star Family Fortunes until 2015. Additionally, he is set to co-host M&S Dress the Nation on ITV alongside AJ Odudu, with guest judge Frankie Bridge joining the show this weekend.
Previous seasons of M&S: Dress the Nation featured appearances by celebrities like Mel B, Vogue Williams, and Alex Scott. The upcoming episode will air on ITV at 6.55 pm on Sunday, September 21.
