After an intense series of events at the Newfoundland and Labrador Summer Games, the initial phase of competition is drawing to a close. The action was particularly intense at the Corner Brook Civic Centre, where ball hockey competitors from all corners of the province vied for top honors on Tuesday.

In the gold medal match, Team Mount Pearl South emerged victorious over Team Avalon with a score of 4-3. Thirteen-year-old Raine Foss from Paradise clinched the winning goal and expressed his delight at seizing the moment. “I passed it back to the defense, spotted the opening, made my move, and scored,” Raine recounted. “Representing MPS is a fantastic opportunity that comes once in a lifetime.”

Raine’s teammate, Reid Swain, shared his excitement at leaving Corner Brook with a gold medal. “We’ve been working hard for the past few months, and honestly, we didn’t expect to come out on top. But we did, and it’s an amazing feeling,” he remarked.

Although Team Avalon’s Ryan Walsh didn’t achieve the medal color he had hoped for, he departed Corner Brook with cherished memories. “Staying together with all the guys, experiencing everything we did, it was all fun,” Ryan reflected.

Team Central managed to secure the bronze medal, a feat that 14-year-old Jack Stone proudly brings back to Grand Falls-Windsor. “It’s truly exhilarating, you know? Going into a tournament with uncertainties and then emerging with a medal is a great feeling,” Stone expressed.
