Iconic musician Prince still holds a treasure trove of unreleased songs and albums, waiting to be shared with his fans, as revealed in a recent book.

According to author John McKie, Prince’s extensive back catalog, famously safeguarded in a location called ‘The Vault,’ remains a source of untapped musical gems, accessible only to a select few with the code to unlock its secrets.

The legendary musician and songwriter, Prince, left a legacy of chart-topping hits like “1999,” “Purple Rain,” “When Doves Cry,” and “Little Red Corvette” upon his passing in 2016. However, there are potentially numerous hidden gems waiting to be discovered in his hometown of Minneapolis.

McKie shared insights from Morris Hayes, a former keyboard player for Prince, who mentioned that there are unreleased tracks in ‘The Vault’ that surpass the iconic “Purple Rain.” Despite encouragement to release this music, Prince, known for his enigmatic nature, preferred to keep it hidden, citing it was meant for his nonexistent children. The mysteries surrounding Prince’s creative process add to his enigmatic legacy.

With approximately 40 studio albums released during his lifetime, it is speculated that ‘The Vault’ contains a minimum of 100 unreleased albums, excluding live recordings. The vast collection is estimated to consist of around 1000 unreleased songs, showcasing Prince’s prolific recording habits. McKie expressed a desire for this music to see the light of day, suggesting that Prince himself may have intended for the material to be shared with the world.

The book also delves into Prince’s early career rivalry with Michael Jackson and recounts a transformative experience when he supported the Rolling Stones at the LA Coliseum in 1981. Despite facing a hostile crowd, including Hell’s Angels, who reacted negatively to his performance, this setback propelled Prince to refine his sound and stage presence, leading to the creation of groundbreaking albums like “1999” and the iconic “Purple Rain.”

Insights from music producer Andrew Watt and Prince’s accountant Donnie Graves highlight how these experiences influenced Prince’s musical evolution, pushing him to new creative heights and global stardom.

Prince’s enduring impact on the music industry is a testament to his resilience and artistic vision, as explored in the book “Prince: A Sign o’ the Times” by John McKie, offering fans a deeper understanding of the enigmatic artist’s legacy.
