Former President Donald Trump praised ABC’s decision to cancel “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” after the host made controversial comments regarding the killing of Charlie Kirk, an American political activist who was fatally shot during a debate in Utah. Kimmel accused Trump and his supporters of exacerbating tensions following the assassination, prompting ABC to pull the long-standing show off the air due to objections to Kimmel’s remarks.
Trump expressed his support for ABC’s move on Truth Social, mocking Kimmel’s talent and congratulating the network. However, not all celebrities endorsed the decision. Actress Jamie Lee Curtis voiced her disbelief on Instagram, advocating against cancel culture. Singer John Legend also criticized the cancellation, sharing a post denouncing the decision on social media.
Kimmel, who highlighted perceived Republican hypocrisy in response to Kirk’s death, is reportedly considering options to exit his contract, set to conclude in May. He is expected to appear on Stephen Colbert’s show, as both hosts share opposition to the Trump administration and are exploring joint initiatives to advocate for their beliefs.
Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old accused of Kirk’s murder, allegedly left incriminating messages indicating his intent to harm the activist before the fatal shooting. The FBI uncovered evidence linking Robinson to the crime, including DNA found on the weapon used. FBI Director Kash Pattel confirmed Robinson’s premeditated plans to target Kirk, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation.
