“Water Bill Hikes Approved for UK Consumers Amid Infrastructure Upgrades”

Published on

Water bills are increasing once again as water companies cite the need for costly infrastructure improvements, passing the burden onto consumers. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has provisionally approved price hikes of up to 5% above the previously capped 36% increase for five water companies in England – Anglian, South East, Northumbrian, Southern, and Wessex.

To save money on water bills, consider installing water-saving gadgets in your home, such as shower timers and tap attachments that reduce water usage. Many UK households are eligible for free water-saving items like cistern blocks and shower timers through initiatives like Save Water Save Money, a national scheme that does not require means-testing.

By being mindful of water usage habits, such as reusing bathwater for plants or limiting laundry loads, significant savings can be achieved. Installing a water meter can also lead to substantial savings by accurately billing for actual water consumption rather than estimates based on household size. Individuals on low incomes or with specific conditions can seek assistance with water bills through programs like WaterSure.

It is important to explore water-saving options and utilize available resources to manage and reduce water expenses effectively.
