New footage has surfaced revealing the close call Liam Lawson had with two track marshals at the Mexico City Grand Prix. The Red Bulls driver had to abruptly slow down to avoid a potential collision on the third lap of the race.
Despite being informed to wait for all cars to pass before entering the track to remove debris, the turn one marshals were unaware that Lawson had pitted for a front wing replacement following damage on the first lap.
Expressing shock over the radio, the 23-year-old was alarmed at the near miss, exclaiming his disbelief and concern for the safety of the marshals. Video footage highlights the peril the marshals faced and emphasizes Lawson’s quick reactions that averted a dangerous situation.
In response to the incident, Lawson criticized the lack of communication that led to the risky scenario, stressing the need for better safety protocols to prevent such occurrences in the future.
The FIA issued a statement acknowledging the situation and stated that an investigation is ongoing to determine the sequence of events that led to the incident.
