“Virgin Media Slashes Gig1 Broadband Price to £26.99”

Published on

Virgin Media has recently slashed the price of its fastest broadband offering to a new all-time low. The company has initiated an unexpected sale, reducing the cost of its ultra-fast Gig1 Fibre Broadband by over £70.

The Gig1 package promises lightning-fast speeds of up to 1,130Mbps, typically priced at £29.99 per month. However, it is now available at a discounted rate of £26.99, resulting in a total saving of £72 over the 24-month contract period, which translates to approximately 87p per day.

According to Virgin Media, this discounted rate marks the lowest price ever offered for its Gig1 plan. With these blazing speeds, users can download a feature-length HD movie in under 30 seconds and have a 50GB PS5 game ready to play in less than seven minutes.

In comparison, households with 70Mbps speeds would take more than 90 minutes to download the same game, highlighting the significant advantage of higher speeds for seamless streaming and online gaming experiences.

It is important to note that the reduced rate of £26.99 will see two price increases during the minimum contract term, rising to £30.99 from April 2027 and £34.99 from April 2028. Additionally, the 1,130Mbps speeds may not be available in all UK locations, so potential customers are advised to check availability using Virgin’s postcode checker.

Virgin Media’s Gig1 Fibre Broadband is now priced at a historic low of £26.99 per month, offering a substantial saving of £72 over the 24-month contract. Compared to competitors like Sky, whose comparable 900Mbps plan is priced at £28, Virgin’s offer presents a compelling value proposition with higher speeds at a lower cost.

Alternatively, BT’s 900Mbps connection comes at a higher price of £37.99, prompting consumers to explore alternative network providers that may offer competitive pricing. Community Fibre, for instance, provides 1Gbps speeds at a monthly rate of £25 with the first three months free, although its services are limited to London and select south-east locations.

When choosing a broadband plan, individuals should consider their specific needs to avoid overpaying for excessive speeds. For casual streaming and usage by a couple, speeds around 100Mbps are sufficient, while larger households engaged in remote work, gaming, and movie downloads may benefit from speeds of at least 300Mbps.

Opting for Virgin’s 1Gbps fibre broadband is akin to having a high-speed motorway directly into your home, ensuring smooth and fast internet connectivity for various online activities.
