A man faced court charges for the alleged murder of his father, mother, and brother. Robert O’Connor, aged 31 from Drumgowna, Louth Village, was accused of the killings of his father Mark, 54, mother Louise, 56, and brother Evan, 27, at their residence in the village. The bodies were found around 10 am on a Monday.
Appearing before Judge Stephanie Coggans at a special session of Drogheda District Court, Robert was formally charged with three counts of murder. Garda Sane O’Malley from Drogheda Garda Station testified to arresting and cautioning Robert regarding the three murder charges.
Robert was taken into custody at 4:43 pm at Drogheda Garda Station, where he remained silent after being cautioned by authorities. His solicitor, Paul James Moore, requested a psychiatric evaluation, citing the accused’s history with mental health services since the age of 22. Judge Coggans approved the psychiatric assessment and granted legal aid for one counsel representation.
Given the nature of the charges, Robert did not seek bail during the District Court proceedings, as murder bail hearings are exclusive to the High Court. He was remanded in custody to appear via video link at Drogheda District Court on Monday, October 6. During the brief hearing, Robert, attired in a grey top and black tracksuit bottoms, did not address the court.
In attendance at the court session was Robert’s brother Cian, accompanied by the family’s garda liaison officer.
