A tragic incident occurred when a mother, Pelin Yasot Kiyga, fell to her death from the seventh floor of her apartment building due to a malfunction in the elevator on September 30. Pelin, who was on her way to work, became stuck in the elevator, which then plummeted to the ground with the concrete counterweights. Her husband, Gokhan Kiyga, attempted to rescue her but was unsuccessful despite his efforts to open the elevator doors and call for help. Unfortunately, Pelin sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the district state hospital.
Following the accident, CCTV footage captured Gokhan’s distressed reaction as he realized the tragedy that had unfolded. Emergency services, including paramedics and police, quickly responded to the scene. Subsequent investigations revealed that the lift doors were damaged, leading to the tragic incident. Authorities have arrested three individuals, including the former company manager responsible for the elevator, the current manager, and the site manager, in connection with the incident.
Residents had previously expressed concerns about the malfunctioning elevator, with reports indicating that the lift had been experiencing issues for over a month before the fatal crash. An ongoing investigation is being conducted to determine the cause of the accident and prevent similar incidents in the future.
