An easyJet passenger recently shared her experience of challenging the airline’s fine for an oversized bag. Louise Machin was surprised when easyJet charged her €58 (£51) upon returning from Crete, claiming her suitcase exceeded the size limit, despite her prior measurements.

After contacting the bag manufacturer to confirm compliance with easyJet’s regulations, Machin received a refund. However, she is not the only traveler facing unwarranted penalties for oversized bags due to faulty airport bag sizers, as highlighted by consumer group Which?

Machin, a freelance film and TV sales director, encountered the issue while returning from Crete on a trip with friends. Despite her bag fitting the sizer at London Gatwick, she faced resistance from ground staff at Chania Airport, leading to her payment under duress to board.

Upon validation from the bag manufacturer, Cabin Max, easyJet reimbursed Machin. Similar incidents have occurred with other airlines, with passengers penalized for minor size discrepancies. Which? advises passengers to challenge fines if confident about their bag’s size accuracy.

Despite easyJet asserting no sizer faults at Chania Airport, the airline apologized to Machin and refunded her, emphasizing standardized sizers and addressing customer feedback promptly.
