Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri faced disqualification from the Las Vegas Grand Prix for a technical breach. Post-race inspections revealed that the planks under their McLaren cars were thinner than the 9mm minimum requirement, indicating an unauthorized ride height. Consequently, both drivers were excluded from the final results.

The disqualification significantly impacts the drivers’ championship battle, with Max Verstappen emerging victorious in the Las Vegas race. As a result of Norris and Piastri’s removal from the standings, Verstappen now shares the same points as Piastri and trails championship leader Norris by 24 points with two races left.

Following the race, both McLaren drivers underwent a hearing with the stewards, which commenced in the early morning UK time and concluded well past midnight local time, hours after the Grand Prix concluded.

Norris, who initially finished second after starting from pole position but yielding to Verstappen early on, expressed disappointment with his performance before being informed of his disqualification. Despite his efforts to regain positions, Norris acknowledged the superior pace of Red Bull and the challenge ahead in maintaining his championship lead against his McLaren teammate and Verstappen.

Reflecting on his race, Norris admitted to personal errors and the team’s lack of speed, praising Red Bull’s performance. Disheartened by the outcome, Norris looked forward to a brief break before focusing on the upcoming race in Qatar.
