Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have spoken out following their disqualification from the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Norris had initially secured second place, with Max Verstappen claiming the victory, while Piastri finished in fourth. However, both drivers’ cars did not pass the technical inspections after the race due to excessive skid-block wear.

The FIA confirmed the reason for disqualification was the wear on the skid blocks, nullifying their results and intensifying the championship battle with only two races remaining. Norris currently leads Piastri and Verstappen by 24 points heading into the upcoming Qatar race and the season finale in Abu Dhabi.

Norris expressed disappointment, acknowledging issues with their car that led to disqualification, emphasizing the team’s focus on delivering top performance in the upcoming races. Piastri echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the need to regroup and maximize points in the final two rounds.

McLaren issued an apology to Norris and Piastri, explaining the breach of Technical Regulations regarding skid thickness on both cars. The team highlighted unexpected issues during the race that contributed to the violation, expressing regret for the lost points and reassuring a dedicated focus on the remaining season races.

FIA scrutineers identified that the planks beneath the McLaren cars were below the required minimum thickness, resulting in an illegal ride height and subsequent disqualification from the race classification.
