Vanessa Newman, a member of the Corner Brook band Merrymaker, described the scene as resembling a snowstorm due to the abundance of moths. Despite the inconvenience of moths being everywhere, including on their instruments and in their hair, Newman and her bandmates were impressed by the crowd’s enthusiasm, which persisted throughout the event. The moths created mesmerizing patterns around the lights and covered surfaces, turning the festival into an unforgettable spectacle.

The spruce budworm infestation seen during the festival is part of a larger outbreak in Newfoundland and Labrador that has been anticipated for some time. These insects have a short lifespan, typically living only two weeks as moths, and their presence indicates a concerning trend for the local forestry industry.
