The leader of the Green Party, Zack Polanski, has advocated for the legalization of all drugs, including Class A narcotics. Polanski emphasized the necessity of adopting a “public health approach” to address drug-related issues and combat drug cartels. He criticized the ineffective war on drugs and urged for a new strategy to tackle the problem.
Speaking before his inaugural leader’s speech at the party’s national conference in Bournemouth, Polanski expressed his views to BBC South East, stating, “The war on drugs has absolutely failed, and ultimately we need to be having a public health approach.” He highlighted the burden on taxpayers due to criminal activities associated with illegal drug markets and gang operations.
In a spirited address, Polanski criticized Keir Starmer’s government, accusing them of neglecting climate issues and pursuing policies of managed decline. He outlined the Green Party’s stance against aligning with what he described as unfavorable political ideologies, emphasizing the need for a shift towards eco-populism and hopeful politics.
Polanski stressed the urgency of addressing climate change and criticized the current political landscape for its lack of substantial change. He raised concerns about the potential consequences of maintaining the status quo and called for bold measures such as expanding safe routes for migrants and implementing a radical wealth tax to support public services.
