Wayne Lineker has recently shared details about a significant change in his lifestyle, revealing that he underwent rehabilitation earlier this year and has now been sober for over two months.
The 63-year-old nightclub owner confessed that he is adapting to a life free from alcohol and drugs, and has also reconnected with his long-estranged brother, Gary Lineker, after almost twenty years.
In a personal Instagram post posted on Friday, Wayne disclosed that he had returned to Dubai for the launch of his renowned O Beach establishment. Despite his past reputation for excessive partying, he indicated a shift in behavior during this visit.
Expressing his newfound perspective, Wayne wrote, “It’s refreshing to experience life with a clear mind for once.” He emphasized the excitement of sobriety becoming his new norm and the joy of waking up fresh each morning.
Reflecting on his journey, Wayne shared that he has gained mental clarity, noting the intense focus of his mind. He also hinted at sharing more insights about his recovery in the future.
Acknowledging his time in rehab, Wayne described it as the best decision he has made, addressing both alcohol addiction and other substance use. He expressed gratitude towards his supporters for their love and encouragement, emphasizing his 72 days of sobriety and his desire to assist others on a similar path.
Coinciding with this new phase, Wayne has reconciled with his older brother, Gary Lineker, a former England footballer and Match of the Day presenter. The brothers had been estranged for nearly two decades due to a feud allegedly triggered by issues surrounding Gary’s ex-wife, Danielle Bux.
Wayne recounted the strained relationship that developed post a family vacation in Ibiza in 2008, where tensions arose with Danielle. Following Gary’s marriage to Danielle in 2009, Wayne distanced himself from the couple, leading to further rifts in their bond.
Despite being Gary’s best man at his first wedding in 1986, Wayne was excluded from Gary’s second wedding, exacerbating their estrangement. The lack of communication persisted, with Wayne attributing the breakdown to Danielle.
Although attempts to reconcile on significant occasions failed, a breakthrough occurred at Wayne’s daughter’s wedding in Mallorca last month. Wayne shared a heartwarming photo of the brothers at the event, signaling a rekindling of their relationship.
