Fitbit has a long history of assisting users in maintaining their activity levels for more than 15 years. Now, under the ownership of Google, the company has introduced a new product called the Fitbit Air. This innovative device offers a more affordable and convenient way to monitor daily fitness progress. Unlike previous Fitbit models, the Fitbit Air does not feature a screen and instead resembles popular Whoop bands that can be worn on the wrist as a stylish accessory.
While this design choice means certain functionalities like message reading, heart rate monitoring, and exercise stat viewing are absent, it comes with significant benefits. The Fitbit Air boasts a more comfortable fit, resembling a bracelet-style strap rather than a traditional smartwatch. According to a recent study by Google, the Fitbit Air has been rated as more comfortable than its top competitors.
In terms of battery life, the Fitbit Air offers up to a week of power without needing to be taken off. Additionally, it supports fast charging, providing a day’s worth of power in just five minutes. The device comes with a new magnetic charger featuring bi-directional technology, eliminating the need to worry about orientation when recharging.
Despite its minimalist appearance, the Fitbit Air retains essential Fitbit functionalities. It can monitor nightly sleep, activity levels, daily exercise, heart rate, and even detect conditions such as AFib, sending alerts to users about irregular heart rhythms. Internal features include an optical heart rate monitor, a 3-axis accelerometer, a gyroscope, red and infrared sensors for oxygen saturation, and a temperature sensor.
Since it lacks a screen, all data collected by the Fitbit Air is directly sent to smartphones, where the Google Health Coach can provide users with a comprehensive overview of their health status. The device is fully water-resistant up to 50 meters and will be available in four colors: Obsidian, Fog, Berry, and Lavender.
As for pricing, the Fitbit Air is set to be priced at £84.99 when it becomes available for sale.
