Gail’s bakery chain has announced that ten of its stores will be operational on Christmas Day. Additionally, customers visiting these locations on December 25 will receive complimentary mince pies. All Gail’s bakeries will maintain regular hours on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day.

A message posted on Instagram by Gail’s stated that some of their bakeries will be open on Christmas Day, providing a cozy spot for coffee, bread, and friendly faces on the tranquil morning. Visitors will be treated to a free mince pie as a token of appreciation for spending part of their day at Gail’s (while supplies last).

The company is expanding its presence by planning to launch 40 new stores in England, extending beyond London. In the previous financial year, Gail’s introduced 36 cafes, including their first establishments in the southwest of England. The next phase of expansion is scheduled to be completed by the end of February 2026.

Despite achieving a sales figure of £278 million in the fiscal year ending February 2025, marking a 20% increase from the previous year, Gail’s experienced a rise in pre-tax losses to £7.8 million due to operational expenses and employee costs linked to new store openings.

With a workforce of over 4,000 employees as of February, an increase of approximately 500 staff members compared to the previous year, Gail’s also operates a wholesale division supplying baked goods to various supermarkets, including Waitrose and Ocado. The price of Gail’s sourdough loaf starts at around £4.80, with the retail segment being highlighted as the faster-growing and more profitable sector within the company.

Commenting on their growth, a spokesperson mentioned satisfaction with the strong year-on-year performance supported by the growing demand for high-quality, nutritious food and the backing of local communities. The company aims to sustain this positive momentum by expanding purposefully and enhancing access to quality food products.
