Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy faced a hostile reception at a vigil for the victims of the Manchester terror attack, as attendees heckled and booed him during his speech, according to reports from the Manchester Evening News. Upon taking the stage, Lammy was met with shouts of “shame on you,” “go to Palestine, leave us alone,” “you’ve allowed it to grow on the campuses,” and “you have blood on your hands.”
In response, the Deputy PM discouraged people from participating in demonstrations over the weekend, emphasizing the need for reflection and restraint. He urged individuals to consider the situation with dignity and refrain from taking impulsive actions.
Meanwhile, two worshippers, Adrian Daulby, 53, and Melvin Cravitz, 66, tragically lost their lives in a terrorist attack at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue carried out by Jihad Al-Shamie. One victim succumbed to gunshot wounds following an encounter with armed police.
Political leaders, including Keir Starmer and the Prime Minister, condemned the attack as a deplorable act of terrorism aimed at instilling fear within the Jewish community. They called for national unity and solidarity across all faiths to support and protect the Jewish population. The Prime Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to combating antisemitism and ensuring the safety of the Jewish community.
Acknowledging the bravery of worshippers who thwarted the attacker’s plans, the Prime Minister praised the swift and professional response of law enforcement, averting a potentially more catastrophic outcome. Expressing gratitude to all those involved in the response efforts, he highlighted the importance of unity and support during such challenging times.
