Christian Horner is reportedly being considered as a potential replacement for Andy Cowell as Aston Martin team principal. Speculation suggests that Cowell, aged 56, may face dismissal following the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Horner, the former Red Bull chief, has been eager to return to Formula 1 since stepping down in July.
After a challenging Las Vegas GP, reports from RacingNews365 indicated that Cowell’s position at Aston Martin was at risk, as the team currently sits in seventh place in the Constructors’ Championship standings, just eight points ahead of Sauber in ninth. The article named Andreas Seidl, a former McLaren and Sauber figure, as the leading candidate to take over.
BBC Sport also reported that Horner is in contention to succeed Cowell at Aston Martin. Horner, a prominent figure in Formula 1, has been linked with various teams since leaving the sport in July, including Ferrari, Haas, and Alpine, making this a significant opportunity for him.
Rumors of Horner potentially joining Aston Martin surfaced prior to the Singapore Grand Prix but were promptly denied by Cowell, who stated that there were no plans for Horner to be involved with the team in any capacity in the future.
If Horner does return to the grid with Aston Martin, it would lead to a reunion with his rival Zak Brown, the CEO of McLaren Racing, who had previously criticized Horner’s shift in attitude over the years.
Meanwhile, Red Bull had a reason to celebrate in Las Vegas as Max Verstappen secured victory, keeping his hopes alive in the Drivers’ Championship. Following the race, both McLaren cars were disqualified for failing post-race inspections, allowing Verstappen to close the gap to Norris in the standings as they head to Qatar.
