A children’s hospice and a food charity have both removed Sarah Ferguson as a patron after it was revealed that she referred to Jeffrey Epstein as a “supreme friend” in an email.
Julia’s House, a children’s hospice in Dorset and Wiltshire, stated that it was no longer suitable for the duchess to remain as a patron in light of her communication with Epstein. The hospice conveyed that, given the disclosed information about the Duchess of York’s correspondence with Jeffrey Epstein, they have decided it would not be appropriate for her to retain her role as a patron of the charity. They have informed the Duchess of York of this resolution and expressed gratitude for her previous support.
Additionally, a food charity, The Natasha Allergy Research Foundation, has also disassociated itself from the duchess as its patron. The founders of the charity, Nadim and Tanya Ednan-Laperouse OBEs, released a statement expressing their concern over Sarah Ferguson’s communication with Jeffrey Epstein. They clarified that although Sarah Ferguson was previously a patron of the charity, they have chosen to sever ties with her in light of recent revelations. The founders acknowledged her past contributions and kindness.
The email to Epstein, dated April 26, 2011, followed the duchess’s public statement that she would cut ties with the sex offender. In the email, the duchess apologized to Epstein for associating him with pedophilia in the media, praising him as “steadfast” and “generous.” Her spokesperson explained that the message was an attempt to pacify Epstein and address his threats.
During an interview with the Evening Standard on March 7, 2011, the duchess admitted receiving £15,000 from Epstein and expressed regret over the association. She emphasized her abhorrence of pedophilia and vowed to sever all connections with Jeffrey Epstein in the future.
Reports suggest that shortly after, the duchess sent another email to Epstein, apologizing and expressing fear. In the email, she acknowledged his disappointment, apologized for not responding earlier, and explained her reluctance to engage further due to advice she received to distance herself.
