The latest CCTV footage capturing Jay Slater in his final hours before his death will be featured in an upcoming documentary by Channel 4. The documentary aims to dispel uncertainties surrounding his demise and put an end to various social media speculations and assertions.
Jay Slater, aged 19 and from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, went missing on June 17, 2024. Following an extensive search, his body was discovered in a secluded area near the village of Masca on July 15.
After Jay’s disappearance in the summer of 2024, online interest surged rapidly, fueling conspiracy theories on social media platforms and sparking a wave of attention from internet detectives focused on true crime. The case attracted global interest, with over 30 million online videos deliberating on Jay’s whereabouts.
Channel 4’s documentary will showcase the final CCTV footage of Jay, coupled with messages he sent. The footage captures Jay at Papagayo Nightclub at 11:55 pm and exiting at 01:04 am. Later, at 1:12 am, he was denied re-entry into the club, where a doorman appeared to gesture towards something in the distance.
At 2:40 am, Jay messaged his friends stating, “Can’t get in Papagayo they got marker on me.” A friend responded at 2:48 am offering to pick him up, to which Jay replied at 2:49 am, “Doesn’t matter it’s OK. I on a mission.”
The last known CCTV sighting of Jay was at Tramps Nightclub at 3:07 am before he reportedly left the club and tragically passed away later that morning. According to a coroner’s report from July, Jay mentioned to his friends that he was in the mountains and in need of a drink while attempting a long walk home after a night out involving drugs and alcohol.
The documentary, “The Disappearance of Jay Slater,” includes never-before-seen CCTV footage, previously unreleased audio, unsent messages, and insights from the Slater family as they seek answers about Jay’s fate. The film offers exclusive access to Jay’s post-mortem examination, funeral, and inquest, exploring the impact of social media investigations on police efforts and the emotional toll on grieving families.
“The Disappearance of Jay Slater” will premiere on Channel 4 on Sunday, September 28, at 9 pm.
