A group of British individuals were forcibly removed from a crowded flight bound for Benidorm due to disruptive behavior, including one person allegedly attempting to open an airplane door mid-flight.
The incident occurred on a Ryanair flight from Luton to Alicante, which had to make an unscheduled landing in Toulouse, France, after cabin crew raised concerns about the unruly behavior of the passengers. The disruptive individuals, who were part of a stag party, were escorted off the plane by armed French police while other passengers expressed gratitude for their intervention.
According to sources, the men were accused of being intoxicated, with one of them situated near an emergency exit and allegedly attempting to open it. Despite repeated warnings from the crew, the pilot decided to divert the flight and seek assistance from French authorities.
The disruptive passengers were taken into custody upon landing in Toulouse, with one individual described as “very drunk” and detained in a Border Police cell to sober up. Several others were also removed from the flight and apprehended. The main suspect is now facing a judicial inquiry and potential legal consequences of up to five years.
Following the removal of the disruptive passengers, the flight resumed its journey to Alicante after a brief delay. The incident was captured on video by a passenger and shared on TikTok.
A Ryanair spokesperson confirmed the incident, emphasizing the airline’s zero-tolerance policy towards disruptive behavior. Ryanair has been vocal about addressing the behavior of British passengers on its flights, with its CEO advocating for stricter regulations on alcohol sales at airports.
In France, endangering aircraft safety can lead to a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a substantial fine. Similarly, being intoxicated on a plane in France or the UK can result in a two-year prison sentence and a significant monetary penalty.
The airline expressed its commitment to ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all passengers and crew members and emphasized its cooperation with local authorities in handling such incidents.
