A British Airways flight attendant, Haden Pentecost, 41, avoided jail time after being discovered under the influence of drugs and naked during a flight. Pentecost received a suspended six-month prison sentence and was ordered to perform 80 hours of unpaid work and pay £150 in costs. The incident occurred on a flight from San Francisco to London Heathrow in May, where Pentecost’s erratic behavior was noticed by his colleagues. He was found disheveled, sweaty, and completely naked, unaware of his condition.
Pentecost’s behavior caused a disturbance on the flight, leading the captain to seek medical assistance upon landing at Heathrow. It was revealed through a blood sample that Pentecost had consumed methamphetamine and amphetamine. Subsequently, he was dismissed from his job for failing to fulfill his duties during the flight.
During the court proceedings, Pentecost’s lawyer explained that he had consumed drugs to enhance a sexual experience, a decision he regretted. Judge Hannah Duncan emphasized the seriousness of the offense, highlighting the essential safety role of cabin crew members and the potential impact on passengers. Despite acknowledging Pentecost’s remorse and previous good character, the judge reduced his sentence from 12 months to nine months due to mitigating circumstances and then to six months for his early plea, ultimately suspending it for a year. Pentecost was also mandated to complete the unpaid work within the following year.
