PayPal is introducing its inaugural debit and credit card offerings, alongside a novel loyalty program. Customers will have the option of physical or digital versions of these cards, enabling them to utilize their PayPal wallet for in-store purchases for the first time.
The new PayPal debit card will be directly linked to the user’s PayPal wallet and one of their bank accounts. In cases where the PayPal wallet lacks funds, the purchase amount will be deducted from the connected bank account. PayPal has confirmed that the debit card can be used globally without incurring transaction fees, while the PayPal credit card is accepted wherever Mastercard is.
Simultaneously, PayPal is launching its loyalty program today, allowing shoppers to accumulate points from both online and in-store transactions. Participants earn one point for every £10 spent, and upon reaching 1,000 points, they receive a £10 credit for use within their PayPal account. Moreover, customers using the PayPal debit card earn ten points for every £10 spent.
The loyalty scheme comprises three tiers: Blue, Gold, and Black. Gold and Black tier members receive points valued up to 50% more at checkout, in addition to exclusive access to VIP experiences and other benefits. The program is compatible with other loyalty initiatives, enabling the stacking and earning of PayPal+ points alongside other loyalty points, with free registration for PayPal+.
Diego Scotti, General Manager of PayPal’s Consumer Group, expressed enthusiasm for this new chapter in PayPal’s UK operations, emphasizing the enhanced payment solutions and loyalty benefits. Tamer El‑Emary, General Manager of PayPal UK, highlighted the company’s dedication to British consumers and businesses, aiming to bring the convenience and rewards of PayPal to offline retail experiences.
The introduction of PayPal+ aims to redefine loyalty by offering fee-free transactions, increased points earning on the new debit card, and enhanced rewards for everyday spending, including Buy Now Pay Later options. This strategic move underscores PayPal’s commitment to providing value and convenience with every payment.
