Hikers in an isolated area in Australia’s alpine region of Victoria made a grim discovery as they stumbled upon the lifeless bodies of two women. The hikers found the remains near Lendenfeld Point and promptly notified authorities around 1pm local time.

Following the report, the Search and Rescue Squad and Air Wing officers swiftly responded to the scene to conduct an investigation. Although the identities of the deceased women remain unknown, authorities speculate they were in their 20s or 30s.

Victoria Police indicated that the deaths do not seem suspicious and may be linked to hiking activities in the area, as the bodies were found near the Cleve Cole Hut camping zone. The Victoria highlands, known for their popularity among visitors for hiking and skiing in the Southern Hemisphere’s winter, boast scenic trails through forests and high plains offering stunning views of the Victorian Alps.

A police spokesperson urged the public to provide any information that could aid in identifying the individuals involved, as no missing person reports have been received. Due to the remote location and challenging conditions, the police will camp at the site overnight.

The bodies are scheduled for removal the following day, and authorities clarified that the women’s deaths are not connected to the ongoing search for Dezi Freeman, a suspect involved in a separate police shooting incident. Freeman allegedly fled into bushland after a fatal confrontation with officers executing a warrant related to sex abuse allegations.
