An individual from Annapolis Valley is charged with attempted murder and multiple weapons offenses following a shooting incident involving a woman known to him who sustained critical injuries and was hospitalized. Ryan Alexander Cole, 36, appeared briefly in Nova Scotia Provincial Court on Monday and his case was adjourned to August 25 as he remains in custody.

The incident unfolded on a Saturday morning in South Farmington, Annapolis Valley, triggering a police response to a reported shooting. The suspect fled the scene in a damaged Mazda sedan, heading towards Halifax. Law enforcement pursued the vehicle, making several attempts to stop it, including deploying a spike belt on the highway. The suspect evaded the deflation device and continued to be tracked by air until the Mazda crashed into a tree along a hiking trail behind a shopping mall in Bedford, a Halifax suburb.

Subsequently, the suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, prompting RCMP to issue alerts for public safety. Police dog units from both RCMP and Halifax Regional Police participated in the arrest operation, along with emergency response teams from both agencies. While confirming a connection between Cole and the victim, RCMP Cpl. Mandy Edwards did not specify the nature of their relationship.

Cole has a significant criminal history dating back to 2008, which includes various charges such as breaching release conditions, disarming a police officer, resisting arrest, and unauthorized sharing of intimate images.
