An accused hitman, Michael Riley, who is charged with killing two Scottish gang members on the Costa del Sol, is worried about potential retaliation if he is imprisoned in Spain. Riley, 44, is facing charges in connection to the murders of Ross Monaghan, 43, and Eddie Lyons Jnr, 46, at Monaghan’s Bar in Feungirola on May 31.

Riley, a resident of Huyton, Liverpool, was apprehended by Merseyside police on June 13 following an international arrest warrant issued by Spanish authorities. The victims were associated with the Lyons family, a prominent organized crime group from western Scotland.

Due to concerns for his safety, Riley did not attend the recent hearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court. His defense attorney, Renata Pinter, mentioned that Riley suffers from depression and anxiety and fears for his life from other gang members if he is held in a Spanish prison.

Pinter stated that they will present a psychiatric evaluation and a report on Spanish prison conditions before Riley’s extradition hearing scheduled for November. District Judge John Zani decided to keep Riley in custody until the next hearing on October 3, with the full extradition hearing set for November 20.

The fatal incident occurred while Lyons Jnr and Monaghan were watching the Champions League final with friends at the beachfront bar. Lyons Jnr was fatally shot outside the bar, while Monaghan was pursued and killed inside the pub by a gunman captured on CCTV.

Pedro Agudo Novo, the chief of police in Malaga, described Riley as a member of the Daniels gang, which has been embroiled in a longstanding feud with the Lyons gang.
