Miyu Yamashita had a triumphant debut in Canada, securing victory at the CPKC Women’s Open in Edmonton. The 25-year-old Japanese golfer clinched her fourth LPGA Tour win and second of the year with an impressive performance at the Royal Mayfair Golf Club. She carded a 4-under-par 66 in the final round, finishing at 23 under in the $2.75-million US tournament. Holding a six-stroke lead after three rounds, Yamashita claimed the title by a comfortable nine-stroke margin over runner-up Yuri Yoshida from Japan, who finished at 14 under.
Expressing her joy at the win, Yamashita, standing at four-foot-11, mentioned her appreciation for the Canadian support, saying, “I’m really happy to win in Canada. A lot of people came out to support me, and I was able to enjoy playing throughout the week.”
Yamashita’s victory in Edmonton tied the record for the lowest four-day score on the LPGA Tour at 257, making her the fastest Japanese player to reach four LPGA wins. Anna Huang of Vancouver was the top Canadian performer, finishing in a tie for fourth at 12 under, while Calgary’s Aphrodite Deng secured a tie for seventh at 11 under, also claiming the low amateur title for the second consecutive year.
Reflecting on her performance, Huang expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to compete in front of a home crowd and gain valuable experience. Both Huang and Deng’s top-10 finishes earned them entry into the upcoming LPGA FM Championship at TPC Boston in Norton, Mass.
Despite her 14 tour wins, Brooke Henderson faced challenges at the CPKC Women’s Open, finishing at 7 under in a tie for 13th. Henderson noted the importance of improving her putting to enhance her performance in future tournaments. The tournament also saw strong showings from other Canadian players, including Michelle Xing, Savannah Grewal, Clairey Lin, and Maude-Aimee Leblanc.
Looking ahead, the 2027 CPKC Women’s Open is set to take place at the Royal Ottawa Golf Club in Gatineau, Que.
