A social media campaign led by fans advocating for the tribute received significant support, especially after Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell and Tennessee Governor Bill Lee endorsed the proposal.

He highlighted her role in promoting Tennessee’s appeal to the world, citing the substantial economic contributions generated annually by her Dollywood theme park.

Born in Tennessee in 1946, Dolly Parton’s upbringing in the state led to a remarkable career that brought global attention to Tennessee’s cultural heritage. The renaming process for the airport is underway, although the current policy mandates a waiting period of at least two years after an individual’s passing before naming any property in their honor.
