After over ten years of conducting interviews and engaging in light-hearted conversations with movie stars, musicians, and athletes over some fried chicken, Amelia Dimoldenberg, the host of the popular YouTube show “Chicken Shop Date,” revealed this week that she is wrapping up the series.
In an Instagram post on Thursday, Dimoldenberg expressed her fondness for the show, likening it to her personal romantic comedy and thanking her audience for joining her on this journey. She stated, “I never imagined I would end Chicken Shop Date; I believed it would be a permanent part of me. However, I feel it’s time to move on to new adventures.”
Dimoldenberg initiated the show twelve years ago by interviewing musicians in the underground rap scene in Britain. Over time, she expanded her guest list to include celebrities like Keke Palmer, Conan O’Brien, Paul McCartney, and Jack Harlow, accumulating nearly 3.5 million subscribers on her YouTube channel.
“Chicken Shop Date” features Dimoldenberg going on a pseudo-date with a celebrity at a fried chicken spot in London, engaging them with a mix of flirty, humorous, and occasionally awkward questions. The resulting interactions resemble first-date banter more than traditional talk show discussions, occasionally leading to playful moments, as seen in her encounter with Andrew Garfield in 2024.
Among her myriad interviews are Canadians, such as Ryan Reynolds, who was corrected by Dimoldenberg for misidentifying the character played by his wife, Blake Lively, on “Gossip Girl.” Shania Twain also made an appearance in 2023, revealing she had never met Brad Pitt despite referencing him in her song “That Don’t Impress Me Much.”
Dimoldenberg’s success on YouTube has opened doors beyond the chicken shop, including covering the Oscars red carpet this year and interviewing Canadian actor Hudson Williams. While her next steps post-“Chicken Shop Date” remain undisclosed, she is reportedly developing a young adult drama series for the BBC.
In her farewell message on Instagram, Dimoldenberg hinted at a few final dates before concluding the show permanently.
