Charges Filed in Cattle Brand Fraud Case

Published on

RCMP have pressed charges against a 52-year-old individual following an inquiry into allegations of fraudulently altering cattle brands. Branding serves as a common method to establish ownership of livestock. According to a news release on Wednesday, Livestock Services of Saskatchewan received a report on July 6 regarding modified cattle brands at a farm located in the rural municipality of Martin, approximately 225 kilometers east of Regina. Owen Third, the livestock investigator for Saskatchewan RCMP, collaborated with officers from Moosomin RCMP and Livestock Services of Saskatchewan to examine 197 cattle at the farm. The investigation revealed that 99 of the cattle had an altered brand overlaid on top of the original one, while the rest were fraudulently branded with a new mark. The accused individual faces charges of altering a cattle brand and fraud exceeding $5,000. A court appearance is scheduled for next month.
