In a thrilling finish, Ingebrigtsen surged past Florian Bremm of Germany in the final 50 meters to secure victory in 13 minutes and 15.29 seconds, with Bremm finishing second and Etienne Daguinos of France in third place.

Reflecting on his comeback win, Ingebrigtsen expressed his disbelief at reclaiming the European title after facing challenges post-surgery. He acknowledged his doubts but emphasized his determination to give his best performance. Although he skipped the 1,500-meter event in Birmingham, Ingebrigtsen’s dominance in both the 1,500 and 5,000-meter races in past European championships is well-established. In a separate event, Amy Hunt of Britain clinched the women’s 100 meters title in a tight race, finishing ahead of Ewa Swoboda of Poland and Delphine Nkansa of Belgium. Hunt’s victory followed her silver medal at the Commonwealth Games and her previous success in the 200 meters at the world championships.

Elsewhere, Jessica Schilder of the Netherlands secured her third consecutive gold in the shot put, showcasing her dominance with a throw of 20.73 meters.
