Former Red Bull executive Richard Hopkins has shared an update on the condition of Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher, expressing doubt about the possibility of the public seeing him again. Schumacher, a seven-time world champion, sustained a head injury in a skiing accident in December 2013, leading to his health status being kept confidential.
Since being placed in a medically induced coma following the accident almost 12 years ago, details about Schumacher’s health have been closely guarded. Hopkins, who was involved in operations at Red Bull and had a close relationship with Schumacher during his racing career, emphasized the importance of respecting the family’s privacy regarding Schumacher’s condition.
In an interview with SPORTbible via William Hill, Hopkins mentioned that he has not received recent updates on Schumacher’s health, speculating that the family’s desire for privacy may prevent the public from seeing Schumacher again. Despite his past friendship with Schumacher dating back to the 1990s when he worked at McLaren and later at Red Bull, Hopkins acknowledged that he is not part of Schumacher’s inner circle and therefore lacks detailed information on his current state.
Emphasizing the family’s wish for confidentiality, Hopkins highlighted the respect and discretion shown by individuals like Jean Todt, Ross Brawn, and Gerhard Berger, who have visited Schumacher without divulging any information. He underscored the family’s preference for maintaining privacy and stressed that even if he had insights, he would refrain from sharing them out of respect for the family’s wishes.
