An expert has cautioned that Russia is experimenting with a variety of alarming military tactics to convey a message to the UK and NATO. Eliza Manningham-Buller, the former head of MI5, has indicated that suspicions of the UK being engaged in a conflict with Russia could be valid.

This revelation follows remarks made by former White House advisor Dr. Fiona Hill in June, asserting that Moscow is in conflict with the West through various means such as poisonings, assassinations, sabotage operations, cyberattacks, and influence operations. Manningham-Buller echoed this sentiment, suggesting that the activities of the Russians, including sabotage and intelligence operations, indicate a potential state of war.

Recent reports from Poland, Denmark, and Estonia have highlighted Russian aircraft incursions, particularly during a series of strikes on Ukraine. The swift response from NATO has raised concerns about the possibility of escalating conflicts as Russia continues its aggressive actions and peace efforts stall.

Professor Natasha Lindstaedt from the University of Essex believes that Russia is testing the waters with the UK and NATO utilizing hybrid warfare tactics. She explained that Russia’s recent drone activities in several countries aim to create psychological uncertainty and disrupt the enemy using sharp power effectively.

Lindstaedt noted that while Russia may not succeed in conventional warfare, its objective is to convey a message to the UK and NATO. She emphasized the importance of being prepared to counter cyber threats and drones effectively to mitigate potential disruptions and economic consequences that may arise from conflicts.
