High street bakery chain Greggs is set to launch its first pub serving exclusive beers alongside its famous sausage rolls. The pub, named “The Golden Flake Tavern,” will debut at the Fenwick Newcastle department store and commence operations this Saturday. Two unique draft beers, the Pink Jammie Pale Ale and the Gosforth 1939 Stottie Lager, have been specially crafted in collaboration with Newcastle-based Full Circle Brew Co for the grand opening.
In addition to the exclusive beers, the pub will offer a Greggs-inspired cocktail menu. Patrons can choose from a selection of 15 traditional pub dishes with a Greggs twist, such as the chicken bake Parmo, steak bake mixed grill, sausage roll & mash, and a Greggs ploughman’s platter.
For dessert, the menu will feature treats like yum yum bread & butter pudding and pink jammie trifle, a delightful dish comprising doughnut pieces set in jelly, topped with jam, custard, and whipped cream. This new pub venture follows the success of the Greggs restaurant within the Fenwick store introduced two years ago.
A highlight of the pub’s offerings will be the traditional Sunday carvery, which boasts a choice of steak bake, chicken bake, or cheese & onion bake as the centerpiece, accompanied by sides like cauliflower cheese, roast potatoes, and Yorkshire puddings.
To add to the entertainment, the pub plans to host a quiz night every Tuesday starting from October 7, with tickets available at £5 for teams of up to six members.
The Golden Flake marks the latest collaboration between Greggs and Fenwick, following the previous success of Bistro Greggs in December 2023, which served a refined menu of Greggs-inspired dishes, and the Greggs Champagne Bar in 2024, where 8,000 guests enjoyed sausage rolls paired with Champagne over nine weeks.
Hannah Squirrell, customer director at Greggs, expressed excitement about the new venture, stating, “The Golden Flake Tavern offers a fresh take on the traditional British pub experience, and we look forward to welcoming back familiar faces and new patrons to enjoy this unique Greggs experience.”
Leo Fenwick, strategic partnerships director at Fenwick, highlighted the collaboration as a celebration of both brands, combining Greggs’ beloved classics with Fenwick’s distinctive approach to creating memorable in-store experiences. As iconic North East establishments, the collaboration aims to provide customers with a playful, surprising, and truly unique experience in the heart of Newcastle.
The pub has a seating capacity of 88 people, including space at the bar. Reservations are recommended for dining at Fenwick’s Golden Flake Tavern website from midday on Thursday, although walk-ins are also welcome. The pub is scheduled to operate until February 15 next year.
