A groundbreaking poll has debunked the far-right’s narrative of a fragmented and troubled Britain, revealing the nation’s core values of tolerance and open-mindedness. Conducted with over 45,300 participants and covering 80 different topics, the “Giga Poll” offers a glimmer of hope that racial tensions may not have a stranglehold on the country.
Initiated by green entrepreneur Dale Vince, the research aimed to gauge the true sentiments of the British populace amidst the prevalent far-right discourse in the media. Vince emphasized that while concerns exist regarding immigration levels and arrivals by small boats, the extensive polling showcased the genuine British attributes of compassion, decency, and tolerance.
Carried out by anti-fascist organization HOPE not hate in collaboration with the TUC, the survey provides a snapshot of Britons’ opinions, prompting reflection for PM Keir Starmer. The results indicate that the Labour party lags behind Nigel Farage’s Reform by six points, underscoring widespread dissatisfaction with the government’s responsiveness to public concerns and fears.
Despite the far-right’s attempts to paint a picture of a lawless, racially divided nation, the poll reveals that the British public perceives their communities as peaceful and harmonious, contrary to the agitators’ rhetoric. The findings also indicate a shift in public priorities, with the cost-of-living crisis topping the list of concerns at 56%, while immigration and asylum rank lower at 25%.
The survey sheds light on the public’s desire for more inclusive decision-making processes and a call for decisive actions to safeguard individual and community interests. Notably, a significant majority support initiatives for environmental protection and emission reduction, urging the government to prioritize sustainability efforts.
Overall, the poll serves as a clarion call for more robust and progressive policies to address the pressing issues faced by the British public, signaling a need for proactive leadership and meaningful reforms.
