One of the standout jockeys of the Flat racing season has been hospitalized following a neck injury sustained in a motorcycle accident.
Clifford Lee, a 29-year-old jockey associated with trainer Karl Burke, has had a remarkable season, achieving 94 wins, including his first Group 1 victory aboard Venetian Sun in the Prix Morny. Prior to his riding suspension, Lee had secured four consecutive wins and was on track to reach 100 wins for the first time upon his return.
Unfortunately, Lee’s pursuit of this milestone has been hindered by an incident that occurred while he was on vacation. Burke revealed that Lee suffered a serious fall while riding a cross-country motorbike in Scotland, resulting in a neck injury. Lee is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Edinburgh.
Despite not having a racing background, Lee, originally from south-east London, has excelled since joining Burke in Yorkshire, establishing himself as one of the top jockeys in the UK. His exceptional race-reading skills were showcased in consecutive victories at the Cambridgeshire, a highly competitive race, aboard horses trained by Burke.
Supportive messages have poured in for Lee, with well-wishers expressing hopes for his speedy recovery and acknowledging his outstanding performance throughout the season. Fans and colleagues are optimistic about Lee’s future in the sport once he recovers from this unexpected setback.
