“NY Teaching Assistant Suspended for Inappropriate Student Relationship”

Published on

A female teaching assistant was discovered engaging in inappropriate sexual behavior with a student on multiple occasions during lunch breaks, according to investigators.

The teaching assistant, Ocean Valentine, 22, faced suspension without pay from Urban Assembly Early College High School of Emergency Medicine in New York following allegations of a sexual relationship with a student that occurred at least three times. It was reported that Valentine not only exchanged explicit messages with the 17-year-old student but also continued their encounters outside of school premises. An official report obtained by the New York Post revealed that sexual interactions took place at the student’s parents’ home during school hours.

Valentine’s suspension without pay was announced as the school authorities launched an investigation into a separate case involving a male staff member and another female student.

The illicit relationship between Valentine and the student reportedly began when Valentine initiated contact in May 2022 by sharing her Instagram account with the student. Subsequently, their communication progressed to texting, with messages of a sexual nature exchanged between them.

The unidentified student admitted to authorities that he skipped school on multiple occasions to meet Valentine. According to the report, they left the school premises during lunch breaks to engage in sexual activities at the student’s apartment across the street.

The police initiated an investigation after a female student discovered incriminating messages and a hotel receipt on the male student’s phone.

Despite being under investigation, Valentine allegedly attempted to maintain contact with the student by sending messages inquiring about the situation. The Department of Education emphasized the importance of student safety and professionalism in staff-student interactions, stating that staff should refrain from communicating with enrolled students on personal social media platforms and should avoid using personal contact information for communication purposes.
