Man adopts ‘Mickey Mouse’ voice in stalking ex-partner

Published on

A man utilized a high-pitched voice resembling that of the character ‘Mickey Mouse’ as he persistently made unwanted calls to his former partner in defiance of a restraining order, expressing his determination to reunite with her, as disclosed in court proceedings.

Philip Solomon, aged 35, exhibited difficulties coping with relationship break-ups, as detailed in the Swansea Crown Court, following the termination of his partnership in December 2024, resulting in the imposition of a non-molestation order. The prosecution, led by Emily Bennett, revealed that soon after the order was imposed, Solomon breached it by contacting his ex-partner and driving by her at Broad Haven beach, Pembrokeshire, blowing kisses in her direction.

Subsequently convicted of stalking and violating the non-molestation order, Solomon was subjected to a community order and a new restraining order in June of this year. Despite being sentenced by magistrates, Solomon resumed communication with his former partner through fictitious identities on Snapchat, text messages, and repeated calls from undisclosed numbers.

During these calls, Solomon often adopted a voice resembling that of “Mickey Mouse,” although his ex-partner could recognize him. One message from Solomon conveyed his unwavering determination to win her back. Moreover, the defendant obtained the email address of his ex-partner’s sister and initiated correspondence with her.

The illicit communications were reported to the authorities, leading to Solomon’s arrest on August 8. Throughout the police interview at Haverfordwest police station, he maintained silence, as reported by WalesOnline.

In a statement read by the prosecuting barrister in court, Solomon’s former partner delineated the profound impact of his actions on her sense of security, leading to a loss of trust in others and a perpetual feeling of surveillance and control.

Solomon’s behavior led to a sense of confinement and fear for his ex-partner, who expressed feeling trapped in a cycle of terror. Solomon, hailing from Rosemarket, Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, had previously admitted guilt to stalking, breaching a non-molestation order, and violating a restraining order during his sentencing appearance in court.

According to Dan Griffiths, representing Solomon, the defendant’s conduct stemmed from an inability to accept the relationship’s end. Solomon acknowledged his need for personal growth and maturity in forming future relationships, having undertaken relationship-oriented courses while in custody.

Considering the gravity of the case and Solomon’s criminal history, Judge Catherine Richards concluded that rehabilitation at present was improbable. With a one-third reduction for his guilty pleas, Solomon received a 20-month prison sentence, where he is expected to serve up to half the term in custody before release on license for the remaining duration in the community.
