The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, shared that her son, Prince Louis, has developed an interest in collecting conkers. During a visit to Windsor with US First Lady Melania Trump, Kate mentioned discovering conkers scattered throughout their home, indicating Louis’ fondness for them.
Kate made these remarks while engaging with a group of Squirrel Scouts alongside Melania, assisting the children in completing nature activities to earn Go Wild badges. The two women interacted with the young scouts, with Melania holding one girl on her lap and Kate walking hand-in-hand with another.
As the joint president of the Scouts, Kate conversed with Chief Scout Dwayne Fields about her son’s conker collection at Frogmore House in Windsor Home Park, near Windsor Castle. She amusingly mentioned finding conkers in unexpected places around the house and how Louis enjoys playing with them in his toy trucks.
Conkers are popular among children for their versatility in games, easy accessibility, and educational value in nature-related activities like counting and crafting. Their shiny appearance attracts kids, and the excitement of gathering them during autumn makes conker collecting a beloved pastime for many youngsters.
The event took place after a grand state banquet at Windsor Castle for US President Donald Trump, marking his second state visit to the UK. Children from Lewisham, south London, were treated to oat and cranberry biscuits made with honey from Kate’s beehives at Anmer Hall, her residence in Norfolk.
Melania Trump also brought gifts, presenting each child with a jar of White House honey. Reflecting on the significance of Kate’s involvement as joint president, Chief Scout Dwayne Fields expressed the positive impact of her support on the scouting movement.
During the event, Kate engaged with children constructing a bug hotel, discussing the potential presence of bees and their honey-making process. Additionally, the children enjoyed packed lunches arranged by Kate, featuring finger sandwiches, fruits, and raw vegetable sticks.
