WhatsApp is set to introduce an update aimed at offering reassurance to parents. This forthcoming feature will empower adults to enforce specific restrictions on devices, preventing young users from accessing certain functionalities or joining group chats without authorization.

Moreover, parents or guardians will have the ability to determine who can reach out to the account, thereby preventing unsolicited messages from strangers. They can also manage the account’s privacy settings and review message requests from unfamiliar contacts.

“WhatsApp is a trusted platform for family communication due to its simplicity, privacy, and reliability,” stated WhatsApp. “In collaboration with families and experts, we are launching new parent-managed accounts that enable parents or guardians to establish WhatsApp for pre-teens with controls limiting their usage to messaging and calling.”

To initiate this setup, parents will need both the phone designated for their family member and their own device to link the accounts. Once connected, these accounts will be under the control of the parent or guardian exclusively. Only parents will have access to modify privacy settings, ensuring they can customize their family’s interaction on the platform.

All personal conversations are safeguarded with end-to-end encryption, ensuring utmost privacy as neither WhatsApp nor any third party can access or intercept them. The update will be gradually implemented in the following months.
