“Vancouver’s Lamontagne Shines in 5-1 Win Over Ottawa”

In her first game for Vancouver, Alex Lamontagne netted two goals as the Rise defeated the Ottawa Rapid 5-1 in Northern Super League action on Saturday. Anna Bout, Maithe Lopez, and Camila Reyes, who converted a penalty shot, also found the back of the net for the Rise. The team scored three goals in a quick 10-minute span early in the second half and went on to secure a commanding win at TD Place.

Elise Bell managed to score a consolation goal for the Rapid in the 82nd minute, ending Jessica Wulf’s clean sheet hopes. Following this win, the Rise climbed to fourth place in the league standings, one point ahead of the Halifax Tide. Their record stands at seven wins, one draw, and nine losses, totaling 22 points. The first-place Rapid hold onto their lead with 33 points, maintaining a three-point gap ahead of the Montreal Roses, with a record of 10 wins, four losses, and three draws.

The Rise had a slight edge in possession, controlling 53% of the ball compared to the Rapid’s 47%. They also outshot their opponents 17-8, hitting the target 11 times compared to the Rapid’s three shots on goal. Vancouver earned four corners during the game, with both teams receiving two yellow cards each.

Looking ahead, the Rise will face the Calgary Wild on Saturday, August 29, while the Rapid will visit AFC Toronto on Sunday, August 30.
