Oleksandr Usyk has given Tyson Fury a significant boost by announcing his intention to continue boxing for another two years. Earlier this year, the 38-year-old laid out his retirement plan, indicating that he had two more fights left before hanging up his gloves. In July, Usyk knocked out Daniel Dubois in front of a crowd of over 90,000 at Wembley Stadium to secure his second undisputed heavyweight champion title.
Following his victory, Usyk is taking a break for the remainder of the year to spend time with his family before returning to the ring in 2026. Despite being instructed to defend his WBO belt against Joseph Parker after defeating Dubois or face losing the title, the fight has been postponed for medical reasons, with Usyk’s team successfully obtaining a 90-day extension.
In an interview with UNN, Usyk revealed that he is back in training and aims to make a comeback next year. Contrary to his earlier statements, he now plans to retire at the age of 41 and establish a sports academy post-retirement. Usyk’s decision has reignited Fury’s interest in boxing, with the ‘Gypsy King’ previously announcing his retirement but confirming a comeback in July.
Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, mentioned that Fury is gearing up for a return to the ring in 2026 and is eager for a rematch with Usyk rather than facing Anthony Joshua. While a potential showdown between Fury and Joshua has been speculated for years, Warren emphasized Fury’s primary focus on a third encounter with Usyk.
