An urgent alert has been issued to iPhone and Android users, urging caution against a new scam targeting customers of O2 in the UK. The scam involves a fraudulent message claiming that customers’ SIM cards are facing deactivation due to failure to accept updated Terms and Conditions. The message uses urgent language and appears to be from an official O2 number, adding to its deceptive nature.
For O2 customers, it is crucial to be vigilant. The message warns, “O2UK: IMPORTANT: Your SIM Card(s) will be inactive on 04/06/2026, because you have NOT signed our Terms and Conditions. Logon to sign.” Additionally, the message includes a link leading to a fake website aimed at stealing personal information, which scammers may use to access accounts and compromise online security.
Customers receiving messages about expiring O2 SIM cards should refrain from clicking any links. Instead, they should access their accounts through the official O2 platform or contact the network directly to verify the message’s authenticity. Murray Mackenzie, Director of Fraud Prevention at Virgin Media O2, highlighted the increasing sophistication of scammers in their tactics, emphasizing the need for heightened awareness.
Virgin Media O2 is actively working to protect users from scams by blocking suspicious texts and websites, enhancing fraud monitoring, and urging individuals to report any suspicious messages promptly. O2 has shared protective measures for customers, including avoiding responding to texts pressuring immediate action, being cautious of unknown sender numbers, refraining from clicking on unexpected links, and changing passwords immediately if login details have been compromised.
