The Met Office has advised residents in 51 UK areas to prepare for potential flooding as heavy rain is forecasted for the upcoming weekend. The weather agency issued a yellow warning for rain across various regions, anticipating the risk of floods, road spray, and travel disruptions.

The warning is scheduled to be in effect from 9 am on Saturday until 6 am the following day, encompassing several local authority areas. Residents in the warned regions are urged to assess their risk of flooding and create a flood plan along with an emergency flood kit as a precaution.

In addition, the Met Office recommends checking road conditions and adjusting travel plans accordingly to avoid delays. Being prepared for power outages is also emphasized, suggesting gathering essential items like torches, batteries, and a mobile phone power pack.

Despite reaching temperatures of 27C on Friday, meteorologists caution that the summery weather will not persist through the weekend. Deputy Chief Meteorologist Tom Crabtree highlighted the expectation of widespread rainfall ranging from 20-30 mm with localized areas potentially experiencing 60-80 mm in a short period. Strong gusty winds and possible thunderstorms are anticipated to accompany the rain, posing an increased risk of disruption.

Furthermore, southwest England, western Wales, and parts of the northeast are likely to experience strong winds exceeding 55 miles per hour, although the exact locations and timing remain uncertain.
