Households in the UK often find themselves in disagreements regarding the correct way to load a dishwasher. Common issues include overcrowding, failure to pre-clean dishes, and the proper arrangement of plates.
A survey of 2,000 British adults with dishwashers revealed that two-thirds have argued with family members or housemates over how to stack this essential kitchen appliance. Disagreements typically center around the arrangement of cutlery, placement of items on racks, and responsibilities for loading and unloading.
Data from OnePoll.com shows that 51% of respondents have a specific loading method, while 30% simply fit items in wherever possible. Interestingly, 90% believe their way of loading the dishwasher is the right way.
This conviction has led 46% to rearrange the dishwasher after someone else, disagreeing with their technique. Some have even resorted to handwashing dishes that were improperly loaded and came out dirty.
On average, UK households run their dishwashers five times a week, but it is fully loaded only four times. This inefficiency has caused tension in 18% of homes, with 16% considering it a personal annoyance.
Ecover, in partnership with The Tetris Company, has launched a new version of the classic game to encourage people to adopt more sustainable dishwashing practices. According to Ecover’s spokesperson, the collaboration aims to promote eco-awareness and harmony in households.
Maya Rogers, president and CEO of Tetris, expressed excitement about applying the game’s challenge and fun to real-life puzzles in UK homes. The initiative combines nostalgia with modern functionality, emphasizing resource conservation and household peace.
Ecover also enlisted the help of Larry and George Lamb to showcase their stacking skills. Larry emphasized the importance of using the dishwasher properly, highlighting the game’s role in fostering family togetherness, friendly competition, and environmental responsibility.
